How to pick the right mattress

Size

Which size is right for you?  Look at the size of your room which the bed will go.  You want to be comfortable with enough sleeping surface space but you don’t want it to take up too much floor print in the room.  If you don’t have enough walk space on each side of the bed then the bed is probably too big for the room.  This is personal preference though and if you want it against the wall that is fine but for two people sleeping on that bed it would not be the best situation.

Firmness

What are you sleeping on now?  Is it hard soft in the middle?  Some people go from a saggy non support mattress to a firm one and they instantly do not like it after a few nights.  You have to realize when you get a new mattress that there will be much better support than your old one and it will take some time to get adjusted.  Going from one extreme to the other on firmness is a risk you can take but it might be right for you.

Over time our bodies change and what you need for support changes as well.  The older one gets the firmer a mattress they tend to like.  I’ve seen this as an average consensus over many years of being in the mattress industry.  Of course for you it can go the other way as well.  Young customers tend to like the foam, hybrid, pillowtop or just anything really soft or in the middle.   The older customers tend to gravitate towards middle of the road like a firm or cushion firm all the way to an extra firm.  Everyone’s body is different and that is why I am dumbfounded by people purchasing an online mattress for the master bedroom without having a place to test it out.  The stores have many models on the floor to help make the decision and highly educated salespeople to help you out!

Quality & Brand

How long do you want your mattress to last and which room is it going in?  For spare bedroom beds or kids room a high quality bed isn’t fully necessary unless you have enough funds to do so or you want your guests to stay too long :) For Master Bedroom mattresses we always advise spending the most you can afford on a good quality mattress.  The two brands we recommend for master bedroom mattresses is Aireloom and Stearns & Foster.  Aireloom is an all natural handmade and handtufted mattress that will sleep like a dream and last for many years.  Check out the video on how these mattresses are made HERE.  Stearns & Foster is another manufacturer that specializes in high grade materials and attention to detail.  Both of these companies make one of the best mattresses out in the industry today.  See the Stearns & Foster collection HERE.

Visiting our Store

When you stop in we will ask you prequalifying questions to help guide you to the right mattress.  What firmness level do you sleep on now and do you like it?  What do you not like about your current mattress that is having you come in to look for a new one?  Do you like a more traditional lay on the top or a sinking in cradling feeling like memory foam or latex?

If you don’t know some of the answers that is perfectly fine and we can show you a few different styles and quality levels to help you pick the right mattress for you and your wallet.

Make sure you wear comfortable clothes to try out your new bed.  In the winter time remove you coat and even a sweatshirt to help test it out like it would be at home.  Foot protectors are provided on every bed or if you would like to remove your shoes that is appreciated as well.

We are a huge resource of knowledge on these products so ASK QUESTIONS!  We don’t mind at all.  Even if the question feels “dumb” to you there is no dumb questions.  We like to educate you as much or as little as you want.  Mattress shopping isn’t a weekly or yearly thing so use our expertise to help you make the correct decision on your new mattress.
